What is Tratak Meditation?

We know that the eyes are the gateway of our Brain. And Brain is the software of our body. Eyes play a major role in performing daily chores. Then we need to take special care o our eyes. how can you keep your eyesight healthy? Here is where the techniques of Trataka meditation emerge in.

In today’s modern world, it is difficult to avoid the use of Mobile, laptop and other digital screens. These things overstretching the vital organ of our body. Its really overstraining the predominant organ i.e. Eye. Our eye muscles are semi-voluntary, more used and hence its overuse drains these muscles. Therefore, soothing them and vacuuming of eyes on a regular interval is needed for healthy eyes.

Tratak is a significant Yogic purification technique for eyes, respective objects and their mutual connection. The word TRATAK is derived from the word trutiTrut means broken pieces that can still be united and exist in one form.

“Tratak simply means focusing on an object. “

Types of Tratak Meditation:

·         Bindu Tratak: on a Single Black Dot.

·         Murti Tratak: on an Idol.

·         Vartul Tratak: on a Circle.

·         Valay Tratak: on a Spiral Ring.

·         Jyoti Tratak: on a Flame of a Lamp or a Candle.

·         Surya Tratak: on Early Sunrise or just before Sunset. This is done less than 5 min with expert guidance only.

·         Trinetra Tratak: on your own Third Eye.


How to do Trataka Meditation?

Follow below Steps for Trataka meditation :

·         First of all, relax and Sit in meditation pose in front of a candle. Place the candle about an arm’s length away from you with the wick of the candle at the same height as your chest. Ensure that the flame is still and not moving abruptly.

·         Close your eyes. Mentally repeat your Mantra as in meditation.

·         Open the eyes and look at the flame without blinking. Pay full attention to the lame. The flame has three zones of colour. At the base of the wick is a reddish colour, in the middle it is bright white and at the tip, it is slightly smoky. Concentrate on the upper part of the flame where it is the brightest one.

·         Close the eyes again. Try to visualize flame and see If the image of the flame appears within, concentrate on that image without over imagining. Try to keep things normal.

·         Repeat the practice 3 times.

·         Gradually increase the speed o your practice. Initially, look at the flame only for about 10-15 seconds. Slowly increase this time.

 

Best Time to perform Trataka Meditation  

  • You can perform Tratak meditation anytime during the day and night. But do it when you are free and not worried about the next scheduled work.
  • Though Tratak can be done anytime, the best time to do Tratak is early morning, maybe before 6 am when you are fresh or even at night before sleeping, when you finish all your routine activities.
  • To maximize the benefits, try to perform these techniques between 4 to 5 AM.
